London, 4 June 2025 – Omni Partners (“Omni”) is pleased to announce the acquisition of Datatank Limited (“Datatank”). Datatank provides a proven, data-driven solution that enables councils to sustainably and efficiently increase revenue using credit bureau data in combination with their own council tax data. The transaction marks the fourth strategic software acquisition Omni has made to bolster Infoshare+, which launched in October 2024.
Founded in 2004, the Datatank team has deep public sector expertise, with the company serving as a trusted partner to more than 160 local authorities across the UK. Its core technology helps councils uncover inaccurate or fraudulent claims for Single Person Discount (“SPD”) on council tax bills. By recovering unpaid tax and improving billing accuracy, Datatank delivers measurable and sustainable revenue improvements at a time when many local authorities face severe financial pressure. Datatank pioneered the use of credit bureau data nearly twenty years ago to detect fraudulent SPD claims. Since then, it has developed and honed its data analytical skills to identify potential cases of fraud and has built out additional cloud-based software solutions to provide the public sector with a range of off-the-shelf solutions for collaborative working.
The Datatank solution addresses a very real and growing problem for local authorities. According to leading fraud prevention service, CIFAS, one in five people (21%) admitted that they, or someone they knew, had fraudulently claimed for SPD in 2024[1]. This represented an increase from 19% during the prior period. For the period 2022-2024, The National Fraud Initiative (NFI) in England identified more than £50 million of fraudulent or wrongly received council tax SPD, representing more than 37,000 incorrect claims [2].
The Datatank team will join Infoshare+, enhancing the company’s fast-growing portfolio of targeted data and software solutions designed to solve some of the biggest challenges the public sector faces. Delivering real-world impact, Infoshare+ helps the public sector use data and technology for good, with a vision of seamless, connected, and efficient public services that support better outcomes for all.
This move is the latest step in Omni’s strategy to create a market-leading platform of software and data solutions tailored to the needs of the public sector, further strengthening Infoshare+’s credentials as a trusted public sector partner.
Wayne Story, Partner at Omni, commented:
“We’re excited to welcome Datatank to the Infoshare+ family as we continue to build out our public sector-focused data solutions and software platform. Datatank’s software represents a clear example of a highly focused, innovative solution making a real difference to local government finances. In the current environment, councils need smart ways to drive efficiencies and maximise revenues.”
Steve Thorn, Executive Chairman at Infoshare+, said:
“We’re delighted with the addition of Datatank to our platform. For over 30 years, the people behind Infoshare+ have been dedicated to helping local public service organisations overcome fundamental problems through data and technology. With budgets becoming increasingly challenging for local authorities and the demand for services higher than ever, accurately maximising council tax revenue will help them better invest in their communities and support their most vulnerable constituents.”
Tim Bennett, Founder of Datatank, added:
“For more than two decades, we’ve focused on helping local authorities unlock the power of their own data to drive better outcomes. Becoming part of Infoshare+ enables Datatank to accelerate that mission at scale, combining our expertise in council tax and fraud prevention with a broader platform dedicated to public sector transformation. Together, we can help local services become more efficient, connected, and resilient for the future.”
