New co-production animations: growing our library of free council resources

Two new co-production animations add to our growing library of free resources to help councils engage with and support their communities.

Co-production is essential for creating services that are genuinely meaningful and effective. By valuing lived experience, co-production helps tackle inequalities and gives communities a stronger voice in shaping decisions that impact their lives – creating public services that support the real challenges people face.

Involving people in co-production is vital for delivering services that are relevant, inclusive, and truly responsive to local priorities. It empowers individuals to share their ideas, experiences, and insights – all of which lead to better services and stronger communities (Brent Council told us this week how they’re putting co-production into practice – watch the full conversation here).

That’s why we’ve created a set of two, free co-production animations designed to inspire and encourage participation from people in the community. These short videos clearly explain what co-production means in practice, why it matters, and the different ways individuals can get involved – from giving feedback to joining planning groups – so everyone feels confident about taking part.

Alongside the citizen-focused animation, we’ve also developed a dedicated staff video to help council teams understand their role in enabling co-production. This video highlights the benefits for staff and the wider council, shares practical examples of how co-production can improve services, and outlines simple steps employees can take to embed it into their day-to-day work.

Guy Giles, Managing Director of Infoshare+, said:

“Engaging all sections of a community is vital for creating sustainable and relevant services, so these animations will be invaluable tools for all local authorities. They make it easier to start conversations about co-production, build a shared understanding across communities and staff teams, and demonstrate councils’ commitment to working in partnership with the people they serve.”

“We’re committed to helping councils deliver better outcomes through greater engagement and collaboration. That’s why we’ve made our co-production animations completely free of charge and accessible for all local authorities.”
